1. What is the Partnership for Community Health?
The Partnership for Community Health Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to unite Bergen County organizations and their members to work together to build a healthier Bergen County. As is true with many ideas in life, the total is greater than the sum of the parts. The Partnership is working to produce such a synergy in Bergen County.
2. Why do we need it?
We need the Partnership because Bergen County has 886,000 people living in 70 municipalities represented by 15 health jurisdictions. By serving as a forum where people can meet and act collectively on the issues facing Bergen County, we all make a greater impact on the health of our county.
3. What does the Partnership do?
The Partnership is a mobilizer of activities in Bergen County and in order to do this we needed to understand the health needs of Bergen County. Past activities included: an initiative to improve community connectedness through family management skills, a breast and cervical cancer screening program, an anti-aggressive driving initiative focusing on stress management, a nutrition and physical activity initiative for kids and adults, a project to increase resiliency in youth focusing on asset building, and the development of the health cluster for Bergen OnLine, the web site for Bergen County about Bergen County. Future initiatives of the Partnership include work on the Community Health Improvement Plan and the further development of strategic alliances with the health care and business communities of Bergen County.
